Situated in a remote part of the Pacific Ocean, the Seaventures Dive Resort has finally emerged to the fore leaving behind the grim reminiscences of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill. Morris Architects have turned an old oil-drilling rig into a hotel that features 25 tiny guest rooms, which add details to oceanic finery. Scuba divers and snorkelers will find themselves surrounded by an amazing array of coral reefs that support hundreds of multicolored tropical fish species.
Islands of Borneo, Indonesia and the Philippines ring this marvelous Celebes Sea resort. However, this proximity to nature could never confer the 'eco-friendly' label to it. You need to travel ("a flight to Kuala Lumpur; another flight to Tawau; an hour's drive from Semporna; then an hour's boat ride to the oil rig) a lot to get there. Still, it's just the right destination for those who want to see how big recycling could actually go.
