The Pastie Project is an initiative by young jewellery designer, Leah Ball, with the premise of creating 'couture nipple covers, made of precious metals and jewels'. Hmm, hmm. She's currently looking for funding for the project through Kickstarter.

New Food And Packaging Design/ Green Berry Tea
Check out these brilliant origami-inspired Green Berry Tea bags from Russian-based designer Natalia Ponomareva. While the tea seeps, the bag gradually expands into a poetic and delicate paper crane. The design hasn't made it to store shelves yet but the concept is so impressive that it deserves sharing.

Best Of Machine And Digital Watch
The Mechanized Digital Watch features a digital font but manipulates it to function as a "mechanized" number because the elements of each digit physically move to create numbers. Every digit is composed of 7 panels and to create a number, panels on the watch face recess revealing contrasting sidewalls. Thus creating the outline of a digit and a whole lot of fun!

Kata Inflatable Camera Bag
AMAZING! I joked about an idea like this with people… bags that could protect my camera when needed, disappear to nearly nothing when i'm using the camera? Inflatableness to the rescue?!?! Kata ABS-HD inflatable protective casing comes folded up in a pouch. I love that they say "When on board with your camcorder it takes approximately 1 minute to inflate, wrap up your camcorder and stow it in the over head bin." So you can basically sneak on seeming like you have very little, then poof you fill the bin? Slightly shady. But then again, perhaps you can use it as a flotation device in case or emergency? I also wonder how it handles the air pressure? Sadly they also say "This is inflatable protection not a camcorder bag, so while on the go use the camcorders strap or handle to carry and upon arriving at your destination it should be deflated and packed away in your working bag." I'd love a purse/messenger bag fitting version for my dslr for those emergencies if i had to pack it in my check in, or let someone else handle my bags… see more images on the next page!
Troika’s Restless Bats
A fun and original (hopefully inspiring) use of diverse materials and packaging. These playful designs by the talented Troika studio are perfect for gifting! Troika was invited by the Barbican Gallery to create an event to celebrate Ron Arad's retrospective 'Ron Arad: Restless' at the Barbican Art Gallery. Building on Arad's long standing association with table tennis, Troika created a ping pong tournament with a twist, for which they designed 5 sets of custom bats, more or less playable and inspired by Ron's classic designs. Amazing pieces forcing you to shift perspectives on the game! See lots of pics of all the fun details on the next page!
In an homage to Troika's favourite piece, Arad's concrete stereo, they casted a set in cement, and created the CONCRETE BATS.
Referring to Ron's distinctive use of light and Corian, the PING PONG bats have integrated Leds which spell out PING and PONG in mid-air.
Troika pressed and shaped books into paddles, choosing Nabokov's LOLITA (one of Ron's favourites after which he named his eponymous chandelier) and Dostoevsky's THE IDIOT for which he created a limited edition for Penguin Books.
Inspired by his early 80's ready made, the ROVER BATS explore the ping pong potential of original Rover P6 V8 3500 car parts, using opposing ashtrays, a seat lever, a gearstick and seat side panels.
Completing his huge bookshelf which depicts the map of the USA, Troika created the lost states of Hawaii and Alaska as a set of paddles rendered in rusted steel and mirror stainless.
The Tournament Trophy and the cool boxes containing the 'BAT' sets.
Still impressed by the PING PONG Corian + LED set (yes they light up and are direction sensitive: PING one way, PONG the other).

Janis Joplin 1965 Porsche 356c
While at the GRAMMY Museum for DigitalLA's Crowd Source to Curation event last week ~ luckily before hopping on the panel, i had a chance to run around the museum ~ and one thing that couldn't be missed in the lobby is Janis Joplin's 1965 Porsche 356c painted by her friend, Dave Richards… can't you believe it was white before the paint job? There was something surreal about seeing it in person ~ see details on the next page!
p.s. Can you believe they DROVE it into the lobby?
