The new-age prams are a step-up from the old-gen and transform to become strollers but beyond that I don't think any designer has come up with ingenious ideas to extend their useful life. Babyoom is what I'd like to call useful thinking, with all probabilities of becoming a cherished family heirloom passed down generations! From ages 0 to 3 it serves as a faithful baby buggy and car seat; from ages 3 to 6 it transforms to a children's cycle; and beyond that it can be used as a shopping cart for all your shopping sprees.

The lightweight body and easy steps to assemble make this concept a winner. The beauty is that one frame is used for all the 3 setups. If this was around when I had my kids, I know I would have bought it for them.

Whoa! Men To Pee and Wash In The Same Stand!

I'm not a man so I really don't know how comfortable you guys are going to be with this thought…peeing and washing hands in the same urinal stand! What Designer Yeongwoo Kim has done is incorporated the wash basin just above the spot you take aim to pee. The reason cited is that you'll save a water flush cycle, coz when you rinse your hand after the job (I hope you guys do that!), the same gray water can be used to cleanse the urinal basin. Tell me, how many of you ys will be comfortable with this? For once, my opinion doesn't count, but I do find it funny!

Tri Gym cycle trainer concept aims to help folks keep fit

A Staffordshire University product design graduate Andrew Cefferty puts forth his idea of a machine called Tri Gym that could help the UK people to keep fit. Though the designer’s primary focus was on the “aesthetical aspects of current gym equipment and to make gym equipment more visually appealing”, the egg-shaped cycle trainer has come out to be a cure-all or an eco-therapy for all overweight and obese.

The Tri Gym, which is made from fiberglass for ensuring durability and lightweight, can hold up to three users at a time. While losing those extra pounds, the users can have eye contact with each other and converse (if they feel like). As the user goes social, he forgets the pain or pressure he undergoes while working out.

British designer makes skeletal art from trash

You might have seen scary skulls and chilling skeletons scaring the hell out of you. However, have you ever seen or thought about these attaining heights of creativity? British designer Elliott Mariess is one such British designer who utilizes plastic forks, spoons and other similar recycled materials to create his amazingly frightening skeletal art. Collectively dubbed as Waste, the human skeletons – lying sprawled in the above image – stipulate why we should take up recycling on a frequent basis.

After all, turning trash into art is always a welcome sign for our planet’s health. And to do it with this difference makes it very enticing indeed! What do you say?

Sanyo's newly-unveiled Solarve Bus employs solar panels and air scrubbers

Japanese electronics manufacturer Sanyo has teamed up with Ryobi to unveil the Solarve Bus that employs solar panels on the outside to generate power for bus’s interior lighting and air scrubbers. The futuristic vehicle ensures that the bus’s electrical systems don’t rely on traditional energy sources for power. Eneloop air purifiers are deployed inside the bus to filter out viruses, bacteria and general filth from the Solarve Bus’s cabin air.

Sanyo’s expertise in photovoltaics leads us to believe that soon the entire bus will be driven with solar energy alone.

Plants emit chemical to alert aides about herbivore damage

A team of scientists at the Department of Molecular Ecology, Max Planck Institute for Chemical Ecology, has discovered that plants release a chemical compound called green leaf volatiles or GLVs to attract nearby creatures for help. The researchers examined a wild tobacco plant for their purpose. When tobacco hornworm caterpillars, Manduca sexta, attacked the plant in question, the plant produced a specific scent to notify predatory bugs called Geocoris who prey on hornworm eggs and young larvae.

The interesting study also reveals that plants ably perform simple computations. The tobacco plant can modulate the stench in proportion to the gravity of attack or the amount of caterpillar saliva that triggers the GLV action.

The Portable Emergency Light Source designed by Finnish industrial designer Krisztian Griz aims to tackle frequent power outages or to aid one in places far from power lines. The perfectly portable, LED-based emergency light source contains a white light with wide angle beam and spread, and an additional red light for international SOS Morse code signal.

Its long life, custom made battery can be kinetically recharged when needed. The 60 mm wide and high, 300 mm long lightsource is made from shock resistant polycarbonate material. A reflecting vest that goes around the torso keeps the lightweight gizmo in position. Designed to withstand water pressure up to 25m, the portable light can float as well.

Designed by Siqi Liu, the "Urban Wheels" is an electric personal ride-on transporter that harnesses solar power to accomplish multi-tasks. Featuring a flexible body and design that transforms the way people work, play and live, this urban commuter is powered by an electric motor that gets juice from a battery pack. In order to harness maximum solar energy, the designer has used two 33" x 24.5" solar panels that can to the left and right up front slide.

The adjustable handlebar that can be regulated between 38" and 51" offers great comfort and convenience.
