robert mathy: light frequency fingertips
light frequency fingertips by robert mathy, 2009
light frequency fingertips is project by artist robert mathy which uses fingercaps equipped with light
sensitive phototransistors to create music. the four fingercaps are actually made from bicycle tubes and
fit on the thumb and forefinger of each hand. using their sensors, the devices transform light frequencies
into acoustic signals. in this demonstration you can see the fingertips being used with the light emitted
from mobile phone screens. the different light frequencies of the displays results in variously pitched
audio signals. the fingertips can be plugged into speakers and used for performances, all of which
should happen in the dark to prevent interference.
