Huge sand sculpture breaks world record

world record breaking sand sculpture reaches 2243 meter

At the 12th Zhoushan International Sand Sculpture Festival, Dutch artist Marjon Katerberg created a 22.43-meter-high sand sculpture. The mammoth artwork eventually managed to go past the former world record holding sculpture – 20.91 meters tall – to become the world's highest sand sculpture. The sculpture, which depicted a Nigerian story wherein a hummingbird becomes the king of all animals, could never ask for a better reward than a honorable mention in Guinness World Records.

Over 30 artists from China and beyond displayed their art at the event, which was held in Zhoushan, east China's Zhejiang Province. The sand sculpture festival was themed on 'scenes from a trip to Africa', and it saw several artists, including Canadian artist Michel Lepire, spending several days to create some really big sculptures.
